CARMEL, Ind.—The National Precast Concrete Association has awarded eight $1,000 scholarships to university teams participating in the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Concrete Canoe Competition. These scholarships aim to assist teams with expenses related to canoe construction and travel for the upcoming national competition.

The ASCE Concrete Canoe Competition challenges students to design, build and race canoes made entirely of concrete. This competition provides participants with practical experience in concrete mix design, structural analysis and project management.

The 2025 scholarship recipients are:

  • Michigan Technological University — Houghton, Mich.
  • University of Virginia — Charlottesville, Va.
  • University of Nebraska – Lincoln — Lincoln, Neb.
  • Kennesaw State University — Marietta, Ga.
  • Western Kentucky University — Bowling Green, Ky.
  • University of Toledo — Toledo, Ohio
  • Northeastern University — Boston, Mass.
  • Benedictine College — Atchison, Kan.

These teams were selected based on applications detailing the intended use of funds and how teams would address competition-related challenges. The scholarships are intended to alleviate the financial burden associated with materials and travel, enabling the teams to focus on innovation and performance.

“Investing in these teams is an investment in the future of our industry. The Concrete Canoe Competition encourages creativity, technical excellence and hands-on learning — values that align with NPCA’s commitment to building a strong, innovative workforce,” President and CEO Nick Rhoad said.
