Small but mighty is what comes to mind when you think of Midstates Precast Products (MPP). With a company of less than 75 employees, they still deliver top-quality products and services, and, with more than 80 years of combined experience on MPP’s leadership team, they do anything but under-deliver.

MPP started with the demand for another precaster in the central Iowa area — with a familiar face that could be trusted. Fred Larson, the president of MPP, has been in the precast concrete business for 30 years and previously ran a precast company along with Tom Larson and Travis Madsen, who both currently work with Fred at MPP.

After their previous company was sold, they all knew that it was time for another option.

“We all had extensive knowledge to create another precast option,” said Madsen, MPP’s Director of Operations. “We were even hearing from our previous customers like ‘Hey, we want you guys back.’”

Midstates Precast Products opened in 2018 and started shipping products later that year, but full production didn’t start until 2019.

Based in Iowa, MPP is a leading precast manufacturer specializing in reinforced concrete pipes, culverts, manholes and various specialty products. The company holds a strong presence in civil infrastructure projects, including county, city, and state transportation departments.

The company has a modern, purpose-built facility on 32 acres of land, with the original footprint of production being approximately 64,000 square feet under the roof, but within the last year or two, MPP added an 8,000-square-foot production space outside where they have been able to expand their production process to meet demand.

The facility was developed based on the hands-on experience of the company’s leadership, who played a key role in the design and construction process from the pre-construction phase. This involvement enabled the incorporation of cutting-edge manufacturing technologies and equipment, ensuring all products adhere to strict specifications and deliver exceptional quality.

“When I started with the company, the main offices were actually still in that 64,000-square-foot plant,” said Tom Larson, MPP’s director of sales. “Oftentimes, there would be three of us to an office, and eventually we just grew out of it. We are in the process of securing an additional 11 acres to expand the current footprint”
