Applications are now open for NPCA scholarships supporting student teams participating in the American Society of Civil Engineers Concrete Canoe Competition.

The ASCE Concrete Canoe Competition gives civil engineering students the opportunity to put what they learn in the classroom into practice, challenging teams to design, build and race a precast concrete canoe. Along the way, students gain hands-on experience with concrete mix design, project management, teamwork and problem-solving.

Known as the “America’s Cup of Civil Engineering,” the competition has challenged students to combine engineering excellence, hydrodynamic design and racing technique since 1988.

The NPCA Foundation is proud to sponsor the competition, and NPCA offers scholarships to help participating teams offset construction and travel costs.

Last year showed just how far the experience can take a team.

Western Kentucky University received an NPCA Concrete Canoe Scholarship and went on to win the ASCE Concrete Canoe National Competition.

Could your team be next?

Applications for this year’s NPCA Concrete Canoe Scholarships are open Sept. 15 through Oct. 30.

Student teams planning to compete are encouraged to apply and take advantage of an opportunity to help cover the costs of bringing their concrete canoe from concept to competition.
