The Mile High City is where urban sophistication meets outdoor adventure.
Denver, at the base of the Colorado Rocky Mountains, began as three separate towns, with three separate names. In 1859, three became one under the Denver name in exchange for a barrel of whiskey to be shared by all. Since then, Denver, boasting a metro area of nearly 3 million people, has grown into a spectacular city with a thriving cultural scene set against an incredible natural backdrop.
And that nickname? The 13th step on the west side of the Colorado State Capitol Building is exactly 5,280 feet, or one mile, above sea level. This means golf balls fly 10 percent farther, alcoholic beverages pack a bit more of a punch and the sky really is bluer.
And while Denver isn’t technically in the mountains, there are 200 visible peaks dominating the landscape, including 32 that soar to more than 13, 000 feet.
Wherever you look, adventure awaits in Denver. From Red Rocks Amphitheatre, the Denver Museum of Nature and Science and the historic Union Station to 5,000 acres of parks, extreme sports opportunities and gorgeous golf and fly fishing locales, you’ll discover incredible attractions to keep you busy.
Foodies know Denver as a dining destination. With numerous food and beverage awards to its name, the city offers international cuisine and local favorites.
Denver also is a city for beer lovers, with more breweries than any other U.S. city.
