We spend a lot of time analyzing, understanding, examining and testing the materials that go into the mixer, but sometimes we fail to spend enough time focusing on one important aspect: in what order should those materials be added? Material sequencing is critical to effective mix design and product quality. One admixture or cementitious material added at the wrong time can lead to serious issues in the plant or during service. Unfortunately, it’s not one-sequence-fits-all. It’s not just about the types of materials we use, but also about how we batch and what type of mixer we use. During this webinar, precast concrete mix design expert Paul Ramsburg will explain what factors determine the sequencing of your materials. Attendees will learn why air entrainment should be added at a specific time, when fibers should be added, what two ingredients should never be added together, and why sequencing for a ribbon mixer may be different than for a pan mixer. Paul will also discuss troubleshooting issues through sequencing of materials. Sequencing should be considered part of the mix design and should be fully understood by QC staff.
