Course Description:
Lean manufacturing is a term made popular by a group of students at MIT back in the 1980s. The team was researching the amazing success that Toyota was having in the auto industry and how their Toyota Production System was changing the world. Today, we see a new term, and some even consider it the new flavor of the month. The purpose of Lean 101 is to orient the learner into realizing that the principles behind Lean Manufacturing and the Toyota Production System have roots that go back to the beginning of the industrialization period of America. This course will explain some of the important historical players in Lean Manufacturing. It will also review some of the tools that the lean practitioner uses in their role. The outcome of Lean 101 is to become a lean thinker at work, at home and in the community.
