Course Description
“Those who do not learn history are doomed to repeat it.” The origins of this quote are debated, but the lesson behind it is clear and far-reaching. “Well this is how we’ve always done it.” The origins of this phrase, on the other hand, can be traced back to most every manufacturing operation in history, and it, too, offers clear and far-reaching lessons. Kodak had a relentless grip on the film and camera industry for over a century and even branched out and developed the first digital camera. Yet today, film, camera and digital camera sales have almost ceased except in a few niche markets, and the value of the Kodak company has plummeted. The Big Three – GM, Ford, and Chrysler – had a decades-long hold on the auto industry until a combination of economic downturns, political and environmental concerns, and new technologies resulted in bankruptcy filings, major changes in sales, and a new list of key players in the auto world. Diversification and flexibility are necessary for any company’s longevity and resilience, and the precast industry is no different. Knowing how to diversify – what products and services to offer, in which markets, and when – can be a challenge, especially while maintaining regular production and business operations. During this webinar, we will look at the short- and long-term benefits of diversification; what type of diversification may be best for your precast plant, employees, and market; and how to assess your company’s capabilities and limitations so you can develop a realistic diversification strategy.
