NPCA chairman of the Board and president/CEO of Wilbert Precast Inc. Dan Houk shares his opinion on the goals of the new Congress, including freeing up the small businesses to create jobs by passing a budget and transportation bill and removing unnecessary health care burdens.
I’m a firm believer that Congress usually does things “to” us and not “for” us, but there was a notable exception before the gang of 535 cleared out of the District. They passed a $42 billion package of loan expansions and tax breaks for small businesses.
In short, any new government jobs bill or stimulus package needs to get beyond last year’s “shovel ready” projects and into some serious heavy construction that rebuilds our transportation and water infrastructure and puts people back to work.
