ASTM Committee C27 on Precast Concrete Products held virtual mid-year meetings June 22-21 for select subcommittees. A brief summary of discussion topics is included below.
ASTM Subcommittee C27.30 Water and Wastewater Containers
Subcommittee chairman: Hugh Martin, Oldcastle Infrastructure
The subcommittee is working to draft updates to ASTM C1227 that focus on access safety. It also is drafting proposed revisions to ASTM C1613 related to watertightness testing, transfer port location, minimum airspace requirement and the tank outlet elevation. The ASTM C913 Task Group, which falls under this subcommittee, is working to address multiple items, including ASTM C913’s scope and title in an effort to make the standard’s applications more readily known.
The subcommittee recently received a request to incorporate consideration for glass fiber reinforcement in ASTM C1227. The group will meet later this year to discuss this consideration. The group also will work to update some cementitious materials references throughout Committee C27’s standards.
ASTM Subcommittee C27.50 Terminology
Subcommittee chairman: Dean Frank, Dean Frank Associates
This subcommittee is working to create a comprehensive terminology list and correlate the definitions throughout all Committee C27 standards.
ASTM Subcommittee C27.70 Precast Concrete Products for Stormwater Management
Subcommittee chairman: Joel Sprague, TRI Environmental
This subcommittee’s standards officially have been transferred to the newly formed Committee E64 on Stormwater Control Measures. This subcommittee’s next steps will be discussed later this year.
ASTM Subcommittee C27.90 Executive
The executive subcommittee has begun reviewing the Committee C27 bylaws. The group plans to suggest minor revisions to clarify the committee’s scope and membership classification definitions.
2021 is a Committee C27 officer nomination year. Members of Committee C27 should watch for an email from ASTM later this year regarding voting on the slate of nominees. The following officer positions will be open for nomination later this year:
- Chairman
- Vice chairman
- Secretary
- Membership secretary
Nominations for the ASTM Committee C27 Distinguished Leadership Award will open this Fall. The Award will be presented during the December meeting. Members of Committee C27 should watch for an email from ASTM later this year regarding nominating a deserving member of Committee C27. Past recipients include Gary Munkelt of Gary K. Munkelt & Associates and Ted Coons of Afinitas Equipment and Automation.
