NPCA technical staff conducted outreach-related, virtual presentations to four universities, the Minnesota Onsite Wastewater Association, and to a local health department in the first three weeks of March.
On March 2-3, NPCA Director of Outreach and Technical Education Claude Goguen, P.E., LEED AP, conducted presentations during the Minnesota Onsite Wastewater Association virtual annual conference. Goguen presented on topics of watertightness and H2S mitigation in two sessions with nearly 100 onsite wastewater professionals in each session.
Four virtual academic presentations across the U.S. occurred between March 9 and March 16.
NPCA Director of Workforce Development Alex Morales, M.Ed., presented to 23 concrete industry management (CIM) undergraduate students at California State University – Chico. He outlined the types of precast plants, quality control and available industry careers.
In a second CIM-related presentation, NPCA Director of Technical Services Kayla Hanson, P.E., offered a virtual presentation to approximately 15 Texas State University students. The presentation covered precast production.
Claude Goguen presented to the University of Wisconsin – Platteville ASCE student chapter on March 11. Goguen’s presentation covered precast concrete applications and developing technologies. There were approximately 30 students who attended the chapter meeting.
For the first time, NPCA technical staff presented to architecture and construction management students at the College of DuPage, a community college located in Illinois.
Co-presenters Alex Morales and NPCA Director of Certification and Regulatory Services Chris Frederick offered an introduction to precast concrete. They highlighted a pump station project case study during the presentation as well. 19 students in Professor Alexander Pellicano’s building materials course attended the presentation.
Professor Pellicano reported an interest in having NPCA technical staff conduct future presentations.
Lastly, NPCA’s first in-person presentation since March 2020 was offered locally, during the Henry County Health Department’s annual installer’s training event in New Castle, Ind.

Claude Goguen, P.E., LEED AP, provides precast training for installers at the HCHD annual installer’s training event.
Organizers for the training event requested a presentation covering watertightness and best practices for accepting tanks after several of their installers reportedly experienced issues or rejected tanks upon arrival at the job site.
Claude Goguen presented to a mixed audience of around 24 installers and regulators during the two-hour training session on March 18.
NPCA technical staff educated a combined total of 204 installers, regulators and onsite wastewater professionals, as well as 87 students on the benefits of precast concrete within the first three weeks of March.
