On April 23, NPCA Director of Codes and Standards Eric Carleton, P.E., participated in a conference call for the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO).
The meeting was convened to review a recent ballot action on the existing Z1002 standard for Rain Harvesting Tanks. The committee had not met since 2014.
The primary issue for resolution within the ballot was the recommended addition of a 10-foot hydrostatic pressure test to be required of tanks complying to the Z1002 standard. Ultimately, the committee moved to remove the 10-foot head testing requirement from the revised standard.
The committee also discussed that the current standard is out of date with respect to many referenced materials for the various alternate types of tanks. The committee identified a need for the standard to be updated or harmonized to follow the recent revisions within Z1000 (septic tanks).
This action was categorized as ‘new business’ and will be addressed at a separate meeting, outside of the recent Z1002 ballot item.
