The battle to overcome the spread of COVID-19 has created many needs, and one of the most urgent is securing personal protective equipment (PPE) for healthcare professionals tending to COVID-19 patients.
The construction industry is uniquely suited to help and has responded to the need with many donations. If your company is able to donate safety glasses, face shields, N95 masks or other PPE, it will make a big difference in the battle to slow down the spread of this virus.
There are many ways to donate. For example, we have heard from several of our Producer members who scoured their supplies to find much-needed PPE equipment they could spare and then donate to local hospitals. For instance, MBO Precast in Carver, Mass., was able to donate masks and Tyvex suits to a local hospital. NPCA’s headquarters’ office recently reached out to a local hospital through a staff connection and donated a stock of extra safety glasses and masks to the nurses and doctors who need them most.
If you already have made a PPE donation, please let us know by emailing NPCA Vice President of Communication and Public Affairs Kirk Stelsel. We want to share your story to further inspire others to donate.
If you are unsure who to contact or where the need may be greatest, websites such as Find the Masks and Get us PPE connect those with extra PPE with those who need it the most. Searching the map on either site will help identify a hospital or health center accepting donations as well as instruction on how to make the donation.
Although it’s easy to feel overwhelmed or helpless in the face of such a daunting situation, there are always opportunities to help. A PPE donation bolsters our frontline caregivers so that they may safely continue their efforts to treat patients with the virus and to help turn the tide in this pandemic battle.
