Director of Codes and Standards Eric Carleton, P.E., recently traveled to Miami, Fla., to attend the 2019 International Accelerated Bridge Construction Conference. This was Carleton’s second time attending the conference to conduct codes and standards related outreach.
The bi-annual ABC conference was well attended by approximately 300 regulators, ABC designers and researchers. There were 31 participating DOT sponsors, along with 52 exhibitors at this year’s conference.
Carleton noted there are several worthy opportunities to network and meet with ABC-industry-related professionals during the meet and greet cocktail (I’m not sure we should put in “cocktail” gives off the impression Eric was swilling drinks. How about we say “networking”) time and conference breaks. The agenda also included six breakout sessions with multiple 30-minute presentations within each session.
According to Carleton, NPCA membership involvement in future ABC conferences is essential for increasing the presence of precast concrete within the ABC bridge market. Specifically, members who are experienced with ABC component production have an opportunity to offer education on the precast producer perspective at future ABC conferences.
NPCA professional staff are slated to attend several codes and standards related events throughout 2020. You can find a list of NPCA technical services representation at upcoming codes and standards events by clicking here.
The next International ABC Conference will be held on Dec. 8-10, 2021, in Miami, Fla.
