Director of Codes & Standards Eric Carleton traveled to Purdue University on April 2 to offer technical information and resources for Dr. Robert Jacko’s 498E Senior Design Project course.
Since 2013, NPCA professional staff have offered ten presentations to a total of 640 civil engineering students at Purdue. NPCA has participated in Dr. Jacko’s senior design project for six consecutive semesters since the fall of 2016.
This semester, 120 civil engineering seniors were challenged with developing an additional 2,000-person seating capacity at a newly-opened minor league baseball park in Roseland, Ill. A portion of the project entailed modifications to the existing precast parking garage.
Carleton was accompanied by local NPCA producer member Corey Greika, P.E., with Coreslab Structures Inc., to offer a segment on precast parking garage design and details during the presentation.
Several students expressed special interest in learning more about self-consolidating concrete (SCC) mixes. As a result, Carleton received a lead for an opportunity to provide a guest lecture on SCC mixes in Purdue University’s Construction Management program.
NPCA recently launched a landing page that provides technical resources and career guidance for academia. Check out the Student and Professor landing page here.
