NPCA members elected a new chairman of the board, honored a longtime Associate member with the industry’s most prestigious award and toured eight precast plants in three states during the association’s annual convention in Providence, R.I., the first week in October.
Mike Hoffman, vice president of corporate development at Lindsay Precast Inc., headquartered in Canal Fulton, Ohio, was installed as the chairman of the Board for the next 12 months. Chairman of the Board Mike Hoffman, Lindsay Precast (R), is handed the gavel by Immediate Past Chairman Ashley Smith, Smith-Midland (L).
“Mike’s long history of leadership, coupled with his precast experience, make him an ideal person for this role” said NPCA President Ty Gable. “Mike and the Board will be instrumental in guiding the future direction of the association.”
In his acceptance speech, Hoffman spoke about the association’s welcoming nature of new members that has been a long-standing tradition. He also mentioned that he leads a legacy being the 54th chairman of the Board and that he is fortunate to have served with active participants and insightful leaders over the past couple years.
“You never know where this industry can lead you,” he said. “It can be gritty and frustrating. But it can also be glorious and dynamic and fascinating. It is often a wild ride. And I am happy and proud to be on that ride with our members.”
Howard Wingert, president of Concrete Sealants Inc., in Tipp City, Ohio, was honored as the 2018 Robert E. Yoakum recipient. The Yoakum Award, one of the most prestigious honors in the precast concrete industry, is presented annually to an NPCA member for service to the association and the industry. Wingert has contributed much to both NPCA and the industry, serving on the NPCA Board of Directors and many committees, serving on ASTM Committee C13 on Concrete Pipe and ASTM Committee C27 on Precast Concrete Products, which he chaired for more than 10 years.

The Douglas G. Hoskin Award, NPCA’s top membership development honor, went to Leo Feuerstein, operations manager at Western Precast Concrete in El Paso, Texas. The Hoskin Award is presented to the NPCA member who sponsors the most new members. It was the third Hoskin Award in the last four years for Feuerstein, who sponsored 29 new NPCA members.
The Northeast Precast Concrete Association helped coordinate the full slate of plant tours, which kicked off the Convention with eight plant visits over 1 ½ days to precast facilities in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and New Hampshire. NEPCA, an NPCA affiliate group, also had a strong presence at the event.

NPCA’s 53rd Annual Convention hosted more than 500 attendees.
More than 500 attended, which makes it the second largest Convention in NPCA’s history, behind only the 2008 event in Hawaii. More than 80 exhibitors filled the Precast Marketplace, which is a record for the annual fall event. The NPCA 54th Annual Convention will be held Oct. 3-5, 2019, in Seattle, Wash.
