NPCA is passionate about educating our audiences on sustainable precast concrete manufacturing and the variety of applications. In our efforts to practice what we preach, NPCA recently took a sustainable approach to conducting outreach. On April 18, NPCA professional staff delivered three presentations to professional engineers across the U.S. in two separate events – all without traveling more than three miles from our headquarters in Carmel, Ind.
In a unique twist to the Lunch and Learn concept, Claude Goguen, P.E., LEED AP, director of Technical Education and Outreach, delivered a live webinar from NPCA’s office to Thompson Engineering, a multi-disciplinary engineering firm based in Mobile, Ala. We further capitalized on this exciting opportunity by extending the webinar invitation to 11 of Thompson Engineering’s branch offices scattered throughout the Southeastern portion of the United States.
That same afternoon, Eric Carleton, P.E., director of Codes and Standards, and Evan Gurley, NPCA technical services engineer, presented at the 2018 ASCE Indiana Section Annual Meeting in Carmel. The event featured a student project design competition in addition to several educational tracks, including Eric’s accelerated bridge construction presentation and Evan’s precast concrete pavement slabs presentation. Both NPCA presentations received positive feedback and praise from an audience that consisted of Indiana-based professional engineers, contractors and academics.
