Q: Where are you located?
A: Scranton Craftsmen Inc. is located in Throop, Pa., approximately 25 miles northeast of Wilkes-Barre.
Q: How long have you been in business?
A: Founded in 1956, we have been serving northeast Pennsylvania for over half a century.
Q: How long have you been a member of NPCA?
A: Scranton Craftsmen Inc. has been an NPCA member for 45 years and a certified plant since 2007.
Q: Why did you join NPCA and what are the best benefits?
A: Joining NPCA has allowed us to gain more access to local projects throughout the region. As more and more projects are designed, one of the requirements plants typically encounter is that they must be an NPCA participating facility. Additionally, being a member helps us stay up to date with current changes that could help expedite our manufacturing processes and make our products better.
Q: What products do you produce?
A: We manufacture a wide array of products from sanitary and stormwater manholes and catch basins to electrical transformer vaults and light pole bases. We also manufacture residential and commercial wastewater products such as septic tanks and dosing tanks along with precast steps and basement PermEntry products.
Q: Have you introduced any new products lately?
A: As the industry changes, we strive to keep up to date and streamline our current product line while also listening to our consumers and generating new ideas to help them in the field.
Q: What are the top attributes of precast concrete?
A: Because precast concrete products are manufactured in a climate controlled environment, weather is never an issue. Additionally, precast’s speed of installation saves money for the contractor by cutting down on labor costs.
Q: What has your company done to fight off the recession?
A: Diversity! This is the one thing that sets us above any other local precasters in northeast Pennsylvania. We carry a full line of pipe columns, angle, rebar and wiremesh. We also have a custom fabrication shop that produces ornamental railing and a state-certified ready mix concrete plant with over a dozen trucks.
Q: What have you seen in your area as far as recovery?
A: The residential market in northeast Pennsylvania is slumping just like in most parts, but the commerical side really wasn’t too affected by the struggling economy.
Q: What are your plans for the future?
A: Just like most precasters, we are going to further enhance our product line and new products to remain current with customers needs.
