NPCA Supports Resiliency Effort in Congress
Earlier this week, NPCA was part of a coalition urging the Senate to consider a bipartisan amendment to the Water Resources Development Act of 2013. The amendment, introduced by Sen. Kristen Gillibrand D-N.Y. and Sen. Roger Wicker , R-Miss., would have coordinated federal, state and local efforts to improve resiliency and would have led to meaningful improvements to local codes and standards to make structures more resilient. In the end, the amendment was not considered, but the good news is that the Senate passed the WRDA by a vote of 83-14. The amendment also exists as a stand-alone bill, so it could come up again. We will continue to work with the coalition and the sponsors in Congress to work for resilient construction when rebuilding in storm-devastated regions – because what’s more resilient than precast concrete?
