Labor Day is a holiday meant to recognize those who work, but in addition to providing them with a little R&R, it is also on the precipice of a flurry of activity and changes.
The weather begins to turn towards fall, as the dog days of summer fade, college and NFL football seasons ramp up, and, as I write this, the Republican National Convention – and soon the Democratic National Convention – have and will whip the political arena into a frenzy.
Here at NPCA, Labor Day is a jumping off point of sorts, as well. After this long weekend, we’ll officially be less than one month away from our 47th Annual Convention, being held in New Orleans, Oct. 3-6. If you haven’t signed up yet, it’s not too late!
Following Convention, there will be a shorter break between meetings than normal because The Precast Show 2013 in Indianapolis will take place Jan. 11-13. This year’s schedule of events is just as loaded as ever. With top-notch educational opportunities, a packed show floor (watch this video to see what we mean) and wonderful special events, there’s no reason not to register.
In addition to all of that, The Precast Show 2013 will feature two firsts – virtual plant tours and our brand new Sustainability Awards. The virtual plant tours are a new twist on an old event. Guests will join us on a visit to three precast concrete plants in three different regions of the United State, all from the comfort of their cushy theater seats. The event will include breakfast in the theater foyer and three movies complete with interviews, great visuals and a custom soundtrack. It’s the most unique plant tour in NPCA history!
The inaugural Sustainability Awards – which are just a fraction of the overall Salute to Excellence Awards Program – are an opportunity for NPCA members to show off their environmentally friendly practices and be recognized for them in front of their peers.
Lastly, The Precast Show 2013 will be the official unveiling of a brand new marketing plan that will lead the strategic direction of the association’s external marketing efforts for years to come. The behind-the-scenes work that will culminate in this exciting presentation is already underway.
I look forward to sharing in all of these exciting ventures with you, and hope to see you all in New Orleans and Indianapolis.
