NPCA Plant Certification Program Earns Accreditation from ANSI
The National Precast Concrete Association’s Plant Certification Program achieved a coveted stamp of approval recently when it was accredited by the American National Standards Institute. ANSI accreditation means that NPCA has demonstrated that its Precast Concrete Plant Certification Program is consistently administered in accordance with international standards. The NPCA Plant Certification Program will now be recognized in the ANSI International Classification of Standards.
“Accomplishing ANSI accreditation took a great deal of effort by the NPCA Quality Assurance Committee and the NPCA technical staff. To my knowledge, NPCA is the only concrete certification program to have achieved this distinction,” said Ty E. Gable, NPCA president.
NPCA administers the largest, most comprehensive certification program in the manufactured concrete products industry, with 365 certified plants. NPCA certification is required by 36 state departments of transportation, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and scores of municipalities and other contracting entities. “The ANSI accreditation process is extremely rigorous,” Gable said.
“They were very thorough in their examination of every aspect of our certification program, including our auditing procedures, training of inspectors and all aspects of reporting the data. The fact that we are now ANSI accredited provides an extra level of quality assurance for DOTs, health departments and designers who specify products from NPCA-certified plants,” Gable added.
ANSI states that its accreditation “signifies that the procedures used by standards developing organizations meet the Institute’s requirements for openness, balance, consensus, and due process. ANSI accreditation further signifies that the standards of the accredited organization were developed in an environment that is equitable, accessible and responsive to the requirements of various stakeholders.
