The Problem:
A wet well has been installed with a horizontal joint above grade. Seal tightness at the joint was verified by filling the tank with water. After the water test was complete, large pumps were installed on top of the structure. Leaks occurred at the joint when the pumps were activated.
The Fix A:
Install four galvanized steel plates across the joint to prevent future movement. Use drill-in type anchors
3/4 in. in diameter.
The Fix B: Seal The Joint:
Step 1. Inside the vault, remove loose coating and concrete 12 in. above and below the joint around the perimeter of the vault.
Step 2. Fill the joint with non-shrink grout to make a smooth surface. Allow to dry before going to Step 3.
Step 3. Apply a two-part epoxy coating to the dry and clean surface as recommended by the manufacturer’s specifications.
