Education: Bachelor’s Degree, Belhaven University. Ty is also a certified association executive and is a member of the class of Fellows of the American Society of Association Executives, a distinction held by fewer than 1% of association executives. He is the 2009 winner of NPCA’s prestigious Robert E. Yoakum Award.

Role: As the president of NPCA, Ty carries out the policies of the Board of Directors and aligns the association with the NPCA strategic plan. As the association’s chief staff officer, he is responsible for hiring and directing the NPCA staff in the fulfillment of NPCA’s mission. Ty serves as an ex-officio member of the Board of Directors and as the president of the NPCA Foundation.
Experience: President of NPCA since 1994, Ty has overseen tremendous growth of the association, including the ongoing development of its plant certification and educational programs. Prior to leading NPCA, he served as executive vice president of the Metropolitan Washington Chapter of the Associated Builders and Contractors. He advanced to that position from the ABC state chapter in Mississippi, where he served as membership director and executive vice president. He began his career in the construction industry at age 18 as an apprentice ironworker for a general construction firm. After graduating college, he continued working at the firm as a foreman, project manager, estimator and sales representative.
