It took the Utah Department of Transportation just 3 1/2 hours to slide a new bridge into place over a busy Interstate 80.
The accelerated bridge project allowed the department to only close the Interstate 80 section in Salt Lake City for 22 hours, spanning the old bridge’s demolition and the opening of the new bridge.

Utilizing precast concrete elements within the bridge construction, the project took 18 hours less than originally budgeted and was weeks – even months – faster than traditional bridge construction.
