Reinforcing steel serves as the backbone of a precast concrete structure when certain stresses exceed the concrete’s capacity. It depends on many factors for the reinforcing assembly to work as designed including how the assembly was welded. When welding rebar, you must first determine if it can be welded. Once that’s addressed, certain best practices should be used. This course will contain important and useful guidelines on how to weld reinforcement efficiently and safely. Different methods will be examined including fusion, arc and tack welding. Attendees will discuss how to preheat when necessary, use electrodes and diagnose defects in the weld.
At the conclusion of this webinar, you will be able to:
- Explain how to determine the weldability of rebar
- Describe the best welding methods to use in specific applications
- Identify potential issues in the weld and describe how to rework them
